Leicester City are closing in on their fifth summer signing as Montpellier forward Stephy Mavididi undergoes a medical today (Thursday).
With four new faces already through the door, boss Enzo Maresca still needs plenty more as he looks to return the club to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
But it has been a great summer so far for Leicester, with plenty of exciting talent in the building. And with Mavididi set to join them, here is everything you need to know about his imminent transfer.
There has been something of a breakthrough this week, with multiple reports suggesting Leicester have agreed all the details on a €8m (£6.9m) deal, including details of payment structures and add-ons.
Mavididi reportedly flew into the UK from France on Wednesday evening, and has a medical booked for Thursday at Seagrave. He is said to have been spotted by Seagrave last week, according to local radio.
‘Hold-up over payment details’
It had seemed like a deal has been close for some time for Mavididi, though the forward had not been pictured holding a City shirt. The suggestions from France were that the sticking point had the nature of the payments, though a breakthrough has eventually been reached.
Journalist Mohamed Toubache-Ter has reported that while there was an early agreement between City and Montpellier over an €8m (£6.9m) fee, the details around those payments were still being discussed until a full agreement was reported on Wednesday.
Contract agreement
At the end of last week it was reported that there was an agreement in place between City and Mavididi, with a four-year contract settled on. It would seal the forward’s return to England after five years away in which he has represented Juventus, Dijon, and Montpellier.
Maresca coy
As the news over a contract was emerging, City boss Enzo Maresca was asked about the potential of Mavididi arriving. Speaking last Friday at the pre-Tottenham press conference, he was not in the mood to give anything away.
Asked if he could provide any information on Mavididi’s potential arrival, he said: “No. As I said last time, I will tell you today and probably I will tell in the next one, they are still not our players and I think it is not correct to talk about players who in this moment are in a different club.”
