The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Ohio State Buckeyes will soon meet in the College Football Playoff national championship game.

Before the two take field on Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m. ET, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman spoke about the matchup against the Buckeyes.

Freeman was asked about Ohio State freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith. The true freshman has led the Buckeyes to one of the most explosive offenses in the country.

The Notre Dame head coach thinks Smith is a “dynamic football player,” but he made it clear that the Fighting Irish have weapons as well.

He mentioned that he trusts the Fighting Irish’s roster to make an impact on the game.

“He’s a dynamic football player,” Freeman said, per Dominic Miranda. “He’s physically a big presence, but he can run, he can catch. So you’re going to have to do some different things to try and keep him off balance… But, the other part of that is, we got good players too. We gotta do what we do. We’re going to trust our guys to get the job done no matter what we call defensively.”

While Freeman has confidence in the Fighting Irish’s talent that’s stacked up against Smith, the true freshman has proven to be one of the biggest stars of the College Football Playoff through the Buckeyes’ three-game run.

During the postseason, Smith has produced four touchdowns and 290 yards on 14 receptions.
