Leicester City reportedly hope to complete a loan deal for Chelsea midfielder Cesare Cadadei later today (Monday), as they close in on their sixth signing of the summer transfer window.
The 20-year-old has been a target for the club since the start of the summer. The midfielder impressed with Italy in the U20 World Cup, winning both the golden boot and the player of the tournament award.
He then spent pre-season with Chelsea, playing a part in their Premier League Summer Series tour of America. The player however wasn’t given a squad number at Stamford Bridge, hinting that a loan exit was on the cards.
Enzo Maresca is keen to add to his midfield options, and is said to have played a key role in a deal that has been agreed with Chelsea. It is reported that Casadei underwent a medical with City on Friday ahead of signing on loan for the season, but the deal is yet to be confirmed.
BBC Sport now offer an explanation as to why that might be. It is said that a move has been “agreed in principle” with Chelsea, but the Blues have been putting all their concentration on completing a deal for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo which put the Casadei talks “on hold”.
A deal that will see Caicedo join Chelsea has now been agreed, with the midfielder closing in on a move to Stamford Bridge. That means that Chelsea can now turn their attention back to finalising the Casadei deal with City.
If all goes to plan, the 20-year-old should be available to make his City debut for Saturday’s home clash against Cardiff City. Maresca’s men will be looking to make it four wins out of four under the new manager.
