‘Not closed’: Everton could still land ‘special’ £25m target today, he wants to join – journalist.

Everton could yet secure the services of Leeds United attacker Wilfried Gnonto before the transfer deadline passes at 11pm tonight.

According to reporter Fraser Fletcher, a possibility of Everton signing Wilfried Gnonto today remains. The “door is not yet closed” on this deal, as reported by the journalist.

Everton have been chasing a deal for Gnonto throughout the summer. So far, the Championship club have stood firm against the Toffees’ advances, although the 19-year-old has made it very clear that he wants to make the move to Goodison Park.

Leeds are thought to want £25 million in exchange for the 11-cap Italy international. Whether the pressure of the ticking clock on deadline day will prompt Everton into finally meeting the Yorkshire club’s demands remains to be seen.

Gnonto could transform Everton

Gnonto would certainly represent an exciting arrival on Merseyside. The teenager showed flashes of his extraordinary raw ability in the Premier League last season. Whilst he couldn’t ultimately help Leeds steer clear of the drop, Gnonto was able to contribute to the cause with four goals and four assists over the course of the campaign.

There is clearly much more to come from Gnonto. He has bags of potential, and has been dubbed a “special player” by former coach Michael Skubala.

The Italian would bring flair, pace, and directness to the Everton attack. Sean Dyche will back himself to coax the best out of the player, and Gnonto has the capacity to have a transformative impact at Everton if he can hit the ground running there.

Everton themselves will be desperate to finally land their man after such a long-running summer transfer saga. Despite the arrivals of Arnaut Danjuma and Gnonto’s Leeds teammate Jack Harrison, the former Zurich forward would be the most exciting new face amongst Dyche’s wide attacking options.
