InsideTheU first reported on Louisiana Tech wide receiver Cyrus Allen as a name of interest for the Hurricanes on Friday when the sophomore pass catcher announced his intentions to hit the transfer portal.

On Monday, Allen’s name officially emerged on the open market with two years of eligibility and the Hurricanes wasted no time extending an offer out. Neither did South Carolina, Wisconsin, Vanderbilt, Indiana, and Baylor.

This past season, the sophomore brought in 46 catches for 778 yards and four touchdowns. That’s after a strong freshman campaign where the 6-foot, 177-pound New Orleans native finished second nationally with an average of 22.7 yards per catch with 500 yards on 22 catches.

Through two seasons, Allen has totaled 68 catches for 1278 yards and eight scores.

There will be plenty of change coming to the Miami offense with the Hurricanes expected to find their next quarterback in the transfer portal and Mario Cristobal and his staff could look to add some more firepower around the program’s next signal-caller.

Allen is a name that makes sense considering Miami’s deep ties to the state of Louisiana. Defensive coordinator Lance Guidry was a long time high school head coach in the state. Offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson is a Louisiana native, as is key recruiting staffer Dennis Smith, who was a staffer in Ruston the cycle that Allen was being recruited,

Smith is who offered Allen on Monday.

Mario Cristobal has also spent a ton of time recruiting Louisiana as an Alabama assistant and beyond over the course of his career. The Hurricanes have five players either on the roster or committed from Louisiana.

Miami is slated to return every productive wide receiver from the 2023 season next fall and adding more talent into the room is a move that makes sense when considering what it takes to elevate a program. Allen is a name to keep track of early in the transfer portal cycle.
