A former Denver Broncos signal-caller is reuniting with a former Broncos head coach.

According to media reports, the New York Jets — who employ Nathaniel Hackett as its offensive coordinator — have signed quarterback Brett Rypien off the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad. QB Tim Boyle was released in a corresponding roster move.

Undrafted in 2019, Rypien spent four seasons with and made eight appearances (three starts) for the Broncos, completing 61.5% of his passes for 778 yards, four touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Largely a backup, he’s perhaps best remembered for his sideline altercation involving ex-teammate Dalton Risner during Denver’s Christmas Day massacre last year — an incident that contributed to Hackett’s firing.

Rypien landed on the Rams’ practice squad to open the 2023 campaign and started Los Angeles’ Week 9 defeat to the Packers, after which he was waived and picked up by Seattle.

Reunited with Hackett (and joining former Broncos QB Trevor Siemian), Rypien is likely to serve as the No. 2 behind Zach Wilson, who’s being reinserted under center for a Jets offense that, much like the 2022 Broncos outfit, is limping to a historically bad finish.
