NBA commissioner Adam Silver made an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show this morning and was questioned about the controversial timeout call in last night’s Suns vs. Lakers game.

Here is how the controversial sequence unfolded: Durant had just cut the deficit to two on a nice layup. Both Devin Booker and Durant had five fouls, and they did not a good job of trapping not fouling Austin Reaves on the ensuing Lakers’ inbound. Reaves coughed up the ball, but LeBron James appeared to be granted a timeout while it was loose with seven seconds remaining. Grayson Allen would have had an easy layup had the timeout not been awarded.

Of course, many are quick to point out that it was James who called the timeout. McAfee asked Silver about this in a joking manner.

Here is what Silver had to say: “That’s what’s known at the league office as a very close call.”

The Suns (12-9) are now 0-3 against the Lakers (13-9) this season and next play the Sacramento Kings Friday night at home.
