The defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles won 10 of their first 11 games, and many considered them the best all-around team in football.
But now, they have lost back-to-back games to the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys, and both games were rather lopsided.
Now, there is an overwhelming feeling that while the Eagles are still a good football team, they have been exposed as not quite Super Bowl-caliber.
They still have a real shot at the No. 1 seed in the NFC, and they will head out West to play the Seattle Seahawks on Monday.
While the Seahawks appear to be inferior to Jalen Hurts and crew, they have won each of their last seven games over Philly, as noted by B/R Gridiron.
The one big bugaboo for the Eagles — and it’s a gaping one — is their defense.
They rank 28th in points and passing yards allowed and 31st in passing touchdowns given up, and they have surrendered at least 33 points in three consecutive games.
It is a puzzling deficiency when one considers how rock-solid Philly was defensively last season when they came to the brink of winning it all.
Right now, the 49ers hold the top seed in the conference, but the Eagles may have an easier remaining schedule than them or the Cowboys.
After playing Seattle, they will face the New York Giants twice and the Arizona Cardinals once before the schedule comes to a close.
If Philly doesn’t end up claiming the No. 1 seed, they would have to travel to San Francisco and/or Dallas to win a playoff game in order to return to the Super Bowl, and that type of scenario could end up getting ugly for them.
