Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has provided a further injury update on Dominic Iorfa.

Sheffield Wednesday have been without Iorfa for the past two games now after the defender pulled up in the opening minutes of the win over Blackburn Rovers earlier in the month.

Rohl initially said that it wasn’t looking good for the 28-year-old who’s had injury problems in the past, and now the Wednesday boss has provided a further update on Iorfa ahead of tomorrow’s Championship clash vs QPR.

Danny Rohl says Dominic Iorfa faces ‘difficult’ spell out

Iorfa was cementing his place in the XI under Rohl.

He’d played every minute of every game up until his injury against Blackburn, having been absence since.

Liam Palmer has stepped in at right-back and looks set to battle Pol Valentin for the starting spot in Iorfa’s absence.

And speaking ahead of a crunch match vs QPR at Hillsborough tomorrow, Rohl gave this update on Iorfa:

“With Dom, it looks difficult for him. We will try everything for him but it will take time. He was playing fantastic, but this kind of thing happens, he will come back stronger. We have to accept and find solutions.”

A huge blow for Sheffield Wednesday and Iorfa

Iorfa is a long-standing member of this Sheffield Wednesday side now, having been with the club since the 2018/19 season.

He’s since racked up 152 total appearances for the Owls with some seasons presenting Iorfa with injury issues, and others not.

It looked like he could’ve gone on and had one of his more involved seasons this time round and it looked like he could’ve really prevailed under Rohl who’s clearly a fan of his.

But this new injury blow looks set to sideline Iorfa for a while and for both him and the club, it’s a really devastating blow.

Palmer is an experienced option to come in but he perhaps doesn’t provide the same coverage as Iorfa, whilst Valentin may be a different kind of right-back altogether.

For Rohl, it’s certainly an obstacle to navigate and if neither Palmer or Valentin can impress the German in the coming weeks, a new right-back might become a January priority for the Owls.

Tomorrow, the Owls go up against fellow strugglers QPR in what should be an exciting game in South Yorkshire, with everything to play for.

Kick off is at 3pm and a win for the Owls could bring them to within five points of safety.
