Jales Hurts’ status for his availability to play in the Philadelphia Eagles game Monday night took another hit Sunday morning. Hurts has been battling an illness the previous few days.

Hurts did not participate in Eagles practice Saturday. However, the team had optimism Saturday afternoon that Hurts would be able to play against the Seahawks. He’s traveling with the team to Seattle.

As of Sunday morning, that optimism has faded.

The Eagles downgrade Jalen Hurts for Monday night

According to Adam Schefter with ESPN, the Eagles downgraded Hurts to questionable to play Monday night because his illness worsened Saturday night.

Hurts will still travel to Seattle, but he will take a separate voyage from his Eagles teammates so he does not transmit the sickness to other players and staff. Since he’s traveling to Seattle, there is hope Hurts can recover in time to play the Seahawks.

The Eagles want their MVP candidate to play behind center Monday night. If Hurts cannot go, backup quarterback Marcus Mariota will get the start against the Seahawks.

Mariota played one game this season. He threw for 16 yards against the San Francisco 49ers two weeks ago. Mariota threw for 2,219 yards, 15 touchdowns, and nine interceptions during his 13 starts for the Atlanta Falcons last season.
