During Monday’s WFAN radio broadcast, former New York Giants linebacker Carl Banks proposed a daring strategy to neutralize the Philadelphia Eagles’ infamous “Tush Push” play.
The “Tush Push,” a unique football maneuver adopted by the Eagles, has stirred debates throughout the season.
Originating in 2005, this play involves multiple players positioning themselves behind the quarterback, engaging in a collective push to gain the remaining yardage needed for a first down or touchdown.
Critics argue its legality, likening it to rugby tactics rather than conventional football.
Carl Banks, however, has thrown a curveball into the discourse, suggesting a controversial countermeasure that challenges the very essence of the game.
“I’d jump offsides again,” Banks boldly declared during the broadcast. “It’s on the one-yard line. What are they gonna do, move it another inch?”
Banks’ proposed tactic involves intentionally jumping offsides and barreling over the center to hit the quarterback, exploiting a potential loophole in the rules.
The audacious plan aims to exploit the current permissibility of the “Tush Push” by delivering unrestricted hits to the quarterback during the play.
The former Giants linebacker further elaborated on his strategy, stating:
“I’d be jumping offsides every single play. I’d go over the top of the center and intentionally hit the quarterback until the league out-rules it, until you can no longer run it again because you’re taking free shots at the quarterback.”

Carl Banks entered the NFL as the third overall pick when the New York Giants selected him in the first round of the 1984 NFL Draft.
Banks achieved a Pro Bowl selection in 1987. His impact was particularly notable during the team’s wins in Super Bowls XXI and XXV as a vital member of the Big Blue Wrecking Crew.
In Super Bowl XXI, his standout performance included an impressive 14 total tackles, with ten of them being solo tackles.
In 1993, Banks ventured beyond the Giants, signing a three-year contract with the Washington Redskins.
However, after the 1993 season, he was released and subsequently spent his final two NFL seasons with the Cleveland Browns, ultimately retiring after the 1995 season.
Post-retirement, Banks assumed the role of Director of Player Development for the New York Jets in 1997.
In the present, he continues to be a prominent figure in sports media, serving as a respected voice on Sirius NFL Radio and WFAN.
Since 2007, Banks works as an analyst for the radio broadcasts of the New York Giants.
