The Trojans dipped back in the NCAA Transfer portal with an offer to North Dakota State defensive lineman Javier Derritt on Friday. In addition to USC, Derritt has added offers from Cal, New Mexico State, Coastal Carolina, Colorado State, UTEP, Minnesota and Kansas.
The 6-foot-2, 280-pound Derritt played in all 15 games for the Bison this season, recording 31 total tackles with 3.5 tackles for a loss (2.5 sacks). Derritt has 56 game appearances over his five-year career with 90 total tackles, 16 tackles for a loss with 11 sacks. He posted a career-high seven tackles for a loss in 2022.
The Trojans will have an advantage in Derritt’s recruitment with former North Dakota State head coach Matt Entz the new linebackers coach at USC.
Defensive line remains a huge need for USC’s defense for next season, set to lose multiple contributors from the front to graduation. USC holds one defensive line commitment in its transfer class from Vanderbilt transfer Nate Clifton. The Trojans also signed two high school defensive lineman in 2024 recruiting cycle in Carlon Jones and Jide Abasiri. USC will return star Bear Alexander and former five-star Anthony Lucas.
Overall, USC holds the No. 12 transfer class in the nation with eight commitments: safety Kamari Ramsey (UCLA), cornerback John Humphrey (UCLA) cornerback DeCarlos Nicholson (Mississippi State), running back Jo’Quavious Marks (Mississippi State), safety Akili Arnold (Oregon State), linebacker Easton Mascarenas-Arnold (Oregon State), Clifton (Vanderbilt) and long snapper Hank Pepper (Michigan State).
Derritt was a three-star prospect in the 2019 class out of Kansas.
