Randolph Kpai has entered the transfer portal, a source confirmed.
The linebacker out of Sioux Falls, S.D. was a Husker 2021 recruit who had high expectations as a prospect, but things never took off for Kpai in Lincoln.
He did not play in a game during his three years in the program after an impressive career at Washington High School. He finished his prep career with 218 tackles, 30 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries, according to the Argus Leader. Kpai had 79 tackles with 9.5 tackles for loss, four sacks and two forced fumbles as a senior.
Kpai was born in Ghana, and lived in Liberia on the West African coast in his earliest years. He was about 5 or 6 when his family moved to the Chicago area searching for new opportunity, and then it was later on in grade school when they moved to the Sioux Falls area since Randolph’s mother had relatives there. He was a talented but relatively raw player upon arrival to Lincoln.
“People need to understand, he’s only played 22 games of linebacker in his career, so he still needs playing time at linebacker,” his former high school head coach Chad Stadem told Husker247 before Kpai signed with NU. “His whole life, he’s always played running back. And he didn’t play football until the seventh grade. He was a soccer player. He just needs to get in there and just play.”
Kpai will look to make that happen in a new locale.
