On Saturday, the New Orleans Saints restructured the contract for one of their quarterbacks before the end of the regular season. The move comes as the Saints face an uphill battle Sunday to make it into the playoffs.

The Saints have a crucial offseason coming up. They must figure out how to run their team back in 2024, with head coach Dennis Allen and quarterback Derek Carr likely returning. According to Over The Cap, the Saints are over $72 million in the red for 2024.

The New Orleans Saints restructured Winston’s contract

According to Jeremy Fowler with ESPN, quarterback Jameis Winston agreed to a contract restructure. The new deal adds two years to his contract with the Saints. Winston is set to become a free agent regardless of the restructure.

That was a generous gesture from Wintson before the Saints part ways with him officially in a few months.

The Saints have much more work to do before the 2024 season. They need to get their cap space out of the red, but they also need to add help for Carr next season.

The Saints are known for being able to weave magic with the salary cap. But those front-office-fueled mathematic gymnastics haven’t fielded a playoff team since the 2020 season.
