Will Levis promising rookie season has come to an end after the former Penn State quarterback was ruled out for his Tennessee Titans’ season-finale Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to reports.
Levis has been dealing with a foot injury suffered in last week’s loss to Houston.
Levis, who finished his college career at Kentucky, was projected to be a top-five pick in April’s NFL Draft. He famously slid to the second round before the Titans took him with the 33rd-pick.
Veteran Ryan Tannehill started the season for the Titans, but with the team struggling, coach Mike Vrabel gave Levis a shot and he responded by throwing for 1,808 yards with eight touchdowns and four interceptions in nine games. He also ran for 57 yards and a score. And, while those numbers are not exactly eye-popping, Levis showed flashes of brilliance and ability that should give Titans fans reason to be excited about the future.
“I think they just saw my competitiveness, my drive, my spirit,” Levis said this week on the team’s website when asked what the Titans got right in taking him this year. “I’m glad the Titans were able to see the true me.”
Tannehill is slated to start in Levis’ place for the game against the Jaguars, and that will be of interest to Pittsburgh Steelers fans because if the Titans can get the win the Steelers will make the playoffs.
