Sheffield Wednesday are now set to sign goalkeeper James Beadle from Brighton, with the move not imminent.
That’s according to a Tweet this evening from Rob Staton.
So, what has been said regarding Beadle and his move to Wednesday now edging ever closer…
Wednesday set to sign James Beadle from Brighton
Staton broke this news tonight on Twitter, with the player apparently now in Sheffield ahead of the move.
Beadle has been with Oxford this season, making 25 appearances for the League One promotion hopefuls.
Yesterday, he was left out of the squad for the third-tier outfit as they were dumped out of the FA Cup 6-2 by Coventry City.
Beadle now looks set to sign for Wednesday on loan for the remainder of 2023/24 and is likely to become the number-one goalkeeper.
That might seem somewhat harsh on Cameron Dawson who yesterday saved two penalties during the 4-0 win over Cardiff in the FA Cup.
Beadle has earned his stripes in League Two with Crewe and in League One with Oxford, with Wednesday now the next stage of his development.
The 19-year-old will link back up with Sal Bibbo who has worked with Beadle when he worked as the goalkeeper coach at Brighton.
Beadle signing could be risky for Rohl
Not to put the mockers on Danny Rohl edging closer to his first signing but this feels like a little risk.
Beadle has bags of potential and Oxford captain Cameron Brannagan has called him ‘fantastic’ this season.
However, Beadle will now swap a promotion chase with a very decent League One team for a relegation battle in the Championship with Wednesday.
That’s going to be a situation that he’s not completely familiar with and that in itself represents a bit of a risk.
However, Rohl does have a bit of a history working with younger players and Bibbo has perhaps given Beadle a glowing reference.
Wednesday have given themselves a sniff of survival with their results in recent weeks.
Rohl will hope that Beadle can be one part of the jigsaw that can come in and help Wednesday push on even further this season.
