Sheffield Wednesday are ‘eager’ to sign a striker currently on loan in the Championship.
Bailey Cadamarteri has been ‘excellent’ since bursting onto the scene in recent months, netting three goals in nine starts in the Championship.
Sheffield Wednesday would rather not rely on the 18-year-old to score the goals to keep them up this season, with their remaining strikers claiming only four league goals between them.
The Owls have already started up their hunt for a new addition to their frontline, with The Star reporting that Ike Ugbo is to be their main priority now.
Despite joining Cardiff City on loan from Troyes in the summer, Ike Ugbo is all too familiar with English football.
The Canada international joined Chelsea’s academy in 2008 and signed his first professional contract seven years later.
Ugbo was sent out on several loan spells to Barnsley, MK Dons, Scunthorpe United, Roda JC and Cercle Brugge, before signing for Genk permanently.
Ugbo bagged three goals and an assist in his first four games at Cardiff, but he has only managed one goal since scoring against Sheffield Wednesday in August.
The forward was an unused substitute on New Year’s Day, while he had started only two of their last 13 games in the Championship before that.
Ugbo’s time in Wales looks set to be brought to an end, with The Star claiming that ‘progress has been made’ on a possible loan move to Hillsborough.
Joe Crann has since provided an update on their pursuit, claiming that the deal is ‘a bit complex’ as all three clubs need to be in agreement to get it over the line.
Cardiff City have recently been linked with Kieffer Moore, and may look to bring in a replacement before they terminate Ugbo’s contract.
Crann also admitted that The Owls are ‘eager’ to bring Ugbo to the club ‘ASAP’, with Danny Rohl desperate to keep up their brilliant form in a run of tough games against Southampton, Coventry City and Watford.
Can Sheffield Wednesday rely on Ike Ugbo?
Ike Ugbo showed a lot of promise when first joining the Championship, but he has so far struggled to set the second tier alight.
As well as a loan spell at Barnsley, the striker has netted five goals in 36 appearances in the Championship. He also only managed three goals in 30 games in League One too.
Ugbo has shown a lot of quality elsewhere though, scoring 43 goals in 128 games outside of England, as well as 25 goals in 51 games for Chelsea’s youth sides.
Danny Rohl is clearly a fan of the 25-year-old and is certainly the manager to get the best out of him, while a loan deal is relatively risk-free for Sheffield Wednesday.
