One of Sheffield Wednesday’s summer signings could be unregistered from their Championship squad this month.

Sheffield Wednesday had to submit a 25-man registration list at the start of the season, but are allowed to shuffle things around and make as many changes as they want up until the end of the January transfer window.

The Owls had no space remaining going into the new year, but the likes of John Buckley and Tyreeq Bakinson have made way to free up some room and welcome new signings.

Loanees James Beadle and Ike Ugbo will need to be added, while Momo Diaby was brought back in at the start of the month after he was removed from the squad after suffering a serious injury at the start of the term.

Juan Delgado now faces a similar situation to Diaby, having not played for Sheffield Wednesday since suffering a hip injury at the start of October.

The Chilean joined The Owls from Pacos Ferreira in the summer and went onto make 12 appearances before he was sidelined shortly before Danny Rohl arrived at Hillsborough.

It was unclear how much longer Delgado would be out for, however Rohl has now suggested he is unlikely to return to the side anytime soon.

Speaking to The Star, the German coach said: “It is a difficult one, this injury.

“It’s not an easy one. You never know what happens in the next weeks but it does not look good and it will take time. It is then up to us to make a decision because it is up to us to select 25 players and we have to make a decision on whether it is the right situation to take him on that list if there’s a chance for him to come back in, if not we have to look at what we can do.”

Should Juan Delgado make way for new Sheffield Wednesday signings?

While unfortunate for Juan Delgado, it would make no sense to include him in the 25-man squad – even if there was a chance of him being available towards the end of the season.

Sheffield Wednesday already have very few spaces available in their squad and Danny Rohl will be tasked with some tough decisions come the end of January, while we can surely still expect some fresh faces to come in.

The Owls need to be very careful with offloading players before they bring anyone new in, while they could consider terminating the loan spells of players such as Devis Vasquez and Jeff Hendrick to make more room.
