Anthony Musaba has spoken of his excitement to be reunited with Ike Ugbo at Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday confirmed the loan signing of Ike Ugbo from Troyes last week, shortly after the French club terminated his stay at Cardiff City.

The striker only managed four goals in 22 games for the Bluebirds, while he netted two goals in 25 matches in Ligue 1 last season.

Ugbo most recently found success in the Belgian Pro League, where he joined Cercle Brugge on loan from Chelsea for the 2020-21 season.

The Canada international moved to Bruges from London in August 2020, before he was joined by Anthony Musaba just days later. The Owls forward had arrived in Belgium on loan from Monaco.

The pair formed a brilliant relationship on and off the pitch, scoring 22 goals and providing three assists between them, despite the club finishing in 16th place – five points above the relegation play-offs.

Ugbo then went onto join Genk on a permanent deal before moving to Troyes six months later, while Musaba was sent out on loan to Heerenveen, Metz and NEC, before signing for Sheffield Wednesday in the summer.

The Dutchman has shared his delight at Ugbo joining The Owls this month and is confident that the duo can reignite their previous form together.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Musaba said: “We had a good time together, we were on loan and I think people know about the connection we had on the pitch, we scored a lot of goals.

“It was a nice experience, we lived close to each other, and we spent time after training and would go for food.

“In Belgium the league is one that I think would prepare you for football in England, so it was a good experience.

“The connection between us is good and I hope we can do the same together here at Sheffield Wednesday.

“We enjoyed playing together, the stats show this and I am convinced we can show the same here.

“I show him around the training ground and I try to show him everything I know about this place and the club.”

Which Ike Ugbo can we expect at Hillsborough?

Ike Ugbo hasn’t exactly set to the world alight during his time in England, scoring a total of eight league goals across loan spells with Cardiff, Scunthorpe, MK Dons and Barnsley.

However, the forward did show glimmers of promise for the Welsh outfit at the start of the season, and we could well see the best of him now that he is set to be partnered up with his old friend and teammate.

Ugbo scored an impressive 16 goals for relegation-threatened club Cercle Brugge – the best tally of his career to date.

The 25-year-old needs to act fast though, because Sheffield Wednesday certainly don’t have time on their side as they look to avoid relegation.
