Sheffield Wednesday are ‘in talks’ with Pierce Charles over his future at the club.
Pierce Charles came up through the youth ranks with Manchester City, before joining Sheffield Wednesday in 2021.
The 18-year-old has featured the U21 side this season, with Cameron Dawson and Devis Vasquez ahead of him in the pecking order. With James Beadle arriving on loan from Brighton, Charles may well have looked miles away from the first team.
However, Vasquez now looks extremely likely to bring his loan spell to a premature exit and return to AC Milan this month, leaving Charles as the third-choice shot stopper.
With the youngster yet to make his senior debut and still having plenty of developing to do before he can make his mark on the senior side, The Star have reported that there are still decisions to be made on whether he could potentially leave on loan in January.
Journalist Joe Crann wrote: “#SWFC are in talks with Pierce Charles about what the best next step is for him – and a decision is expected to be made soon as to whether/where he goes out on loan.”
Realistically, Charles won’t be getting any minutes on the pitch behind Dawson and Beadle, and Danny Rohl has now admitted that he will make a decision that is good for both parties ‘in the next weeks’.
When asked about Charles, Rohl said: “I think there will be a decision in the next weeks, for sure. We need to do what is best for him – I see him as a potential goalkeeper for the future for the club, which is good, so it’s about making a decision that is right for the club and what we need, but also good for Pierce.
