Danny Rohl has already made one selection decision going into Sheffield Wednesday’s tie with Coventry City this week.
Sheffield Wednesday have already faced off with Coventry City twice in the last month, suffering two defeats in the process – conceding four goals and scoring one.
They will be hoping to seek revenge and get third time lucky, though unfortunately a win wouldn’t contribute to their battle against relegation, but would instead progress them through to the next round of the FA Cup.
The weekend’s meeting with the Sky Blues saw James Beadle make his debut for the club, having joined on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion at the start of January.
The ‘fantastic’ 19-year-old had played second fiddle to Cameron Dawson in the 4-0 defeat to Southampton, before he was brought in against Mark Robins’ side last time out.
Despite conceding twice, Beadle did make four saves, completed 64% of his long balls and also made 28 accurate passes.
While the teenager could have been set for his FA Cup debut on Friday, The Star have confirmed that he won’t be able to feature for Sheffield Wednesday.
Beadle will instead be cup-tied after starting in Oxford United’s 2-0 win over Grimsby Town in the second-round last month.
This means Dawson will return to his place in between the sticks as he looks to redeem himself after the Saints’ hammering earlier this month.
Will Cameron Dawson still be No.1?
Cameron Dawson has been in and out of Sheffield Wednesday’s starting line-up since he was handed his big break in 2018.
The 28-year-old did impress recently when he ‘played out of his skin’ as he saved two penalties in the FA Cup win over Cardiff, so he certainly deserves to keep his place in the competition after helping them progress through in the first place.
However, Dawson has come under a lot of criticism in the past too and there was high demand from fans for the club to bring in a new No.1 in January.
Beadle looks set to be that figure, though Dawson is far from a poor back-up option for situations like these.
Having spent much of his life with The Owls, he certainly won’t want to leave anytime soon and will instead have to battle for his place in net. Having two capable goalkeepers should only benefit the team.
