Last week, we discussed the controversy of the NBA’s Rising Stars roster and the snub of San Antonio’s young sophomore star, Jeremy Sochan. The sophomore did not make the cut while having significantly better numbers than some of those who did make the roster.
Spurs’ family came in unison to defend the second-year forward, but unfortunately, nothing was to be done. The rosters were set in stone, and Sochan was left off the list. That was…until he wasn’t.
Portland Trail Blazer’s own shining star young guard, Shaedon Sharpe, was one of the players who was given the honor of being placed on the sophomore’s roster for the Rising Stars event. However, back in January, Sharpe suffered an injury that has kept him out.
Sharpe was averaging 15.9 PPG, 5.0 RPG, and 2.9 APG, and as he began basketball activities in preparation to return to action, he was experiencing ‘worsening of his symptoms’, which then led to the decision to undergo surgery that was announced two days ago.
Immediately following the announcement of this procedure, Spurs fans came together once again in support of Sochan to get our former rising star back to the event for his second appearance, and it worked.
Jeremy will be heading back to the Rising Stars game for the second consecutive year. Sochan will be the first player since Kawhi Leonard in the years 2011 and 2012 to do so.
We may never know why Sochan was snubbed from the initial rosters, but now we will see two Spurs represent the Rising Stars team as Sochan replaces Sharpe for team Jalen. This means we will see Victor Wembanyama and Jeremy go at it in this event!
