On the downside, Liverpool will be losing two of their most experienced players – including their long-serving captain – during a summer in which Roberto Firmino and James Milner have already bid farewell.

Looking at things from a more positive angle, however, bringing in excess of £50 million for two ageing central midfielders who’s best years appear to be in the rearview mirror is undoubtedly excellent business. Certainly from a financial perspective, and arguably from a sporting one too.

Jordan Henderson could leave Liverpool for Saudi Arabia

Fabinho was arguably the best defensive midfielder in the world at one point, but no longer. Henderson, meanwhile, celebrated his 33rd birthday last month.

And if Liverpool can invest the money brought in by the departures of Henderson and/or Fabinho in luring Romeo Lavia to Anfield, then it could be a bit of business justified not only on the balance sheets but on the pitch too.

According to Belgian reporter Sacha Tavolieri, Lavia has already spoken to Jurgen Klopp, and is keen on a move to Merseyside. Personal terms will not be an issue either.

As of Wednesday night, Liverpool were waiting for Henderson to make a decision on his own future before potentially launching an offer for Lavia; Southampton holding out for £50 million (Sky Sports).

Now, with Henderson understandably coming to the conclusion that £700,000-a-week is too much to turn down even for a man who has spent over a decade earning Premier League wages, you can probably expect to see those ‘Lavia to Liverpool’ rumours ramp up over the course of the next few weeks.
