Jonas Griffith is returning for a fourth season in Denver.
The veteran inside linebacker, who was scheduled to become a restricted free agent, signed a one-year contract extension with the Broncos, his agency Roc Nation Sports announced Wednesday.
Acquired from San Francisco via trade in 2021, Griffith has tallied 92 combined tackles (48 solo), five quarterback hits, one pass deflection, an interception, and a fumble recovery across 22 appearances, including 12 starts, with the Broncos.
His career thus far has been marred by injury as Griffith, 27, missed eight games in 2022 due to a dislocated elbow and the entire 2023 campaign with a torn ACL.
“It just sucks losing a guy like that,” Broncos ILB Alex Singleton said last August. “You know how hard he works, everything he puts out there, and then they kind of go, you know back-to-back with injuries like that. It sucks. And it’s a big part of our team.”
Presumably nearing full health, Griffith could push for a significant role in Denver’s linebacker corps with three players (Josey Jewell, Justin Strnad, Ben Niemann) all slated to hit the unrestricted market next month. Griffith and Singleton are the team’s only ILBs currently under contract for 2024.
