One of St. Louis’ biggest stars seems to be back on track

Things seem to be looking up for the St. Louis Cardinals.

St. Louis has had an up-and-down start to the 2024 season but things are trending in a positive direction for the club. The Cardinals finally have started to get reinforcements back and the club’s biggest stars are starting to find some success.

The Cardinals recently got Sonny Gray and Lars Nootbaar are back after dealing with injuries and should have Tommy Edman, Dylan Carlson, and Keynan Middleton back in the not-so-distant future. Another bright spot for the Cardinals is superstar third baseman Nolan Arenado.

Arenado had a slow start to the season but has started to turn things around of late. Some have wondered if he’s lost some power and he even went through the longest home run drought of his career but he recently snapped the streak at 39 games, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Lynn Worthy.

“In his first at-bat on Friday night, Arenado launched a three-run home run deep into the left field seats at Chase Field,” Worthy said. “He snapped the longest homerless drought of his career at 39 games (154 plate appearances) with the 425-foot smash as part of a three-hit performance (3 for 5).

“I think that was the first ball I hit to the outfield this year,” Arenado said as transcribed by Worthy. “No, I hit it really well. It felt good. I’m just happy to come through. I’ve had some opportunities to drive some guys in, so it just felt good to come through for the guys.”

If the Cardinals are going to get back to the postseason in 2024, a major reason why will be the play of Arenado.
