Originally from Lakeland, Florida, 2024 three-star guard Lorenzo Cason, committed to Dusty May and Florida Atlantic back in August 2023. Following May’s departure, Cason re-opened his recruitment and took visits to both Florida and Michigan, before ultimately deciding to follow May and commit to the Wolverines.

He announced his decision Tuesday morning, making it eight commitments for May over the past four days.

At 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds, Cason is a tough, physical guard built for the Big Ten. He is a lead guard, who excels in transition as both a scorer at the rim as well as a playmaker for his teammates, grading out in the 90th percentile among all high school players in transition. While not being an above the rim athlete, his craftiness and lower body strength allow him to finish through contact at the rim. Cason also is proficient at both catch and shoot as well as off the dribble threes, and he is described as a combo guard who could play at all three traditional backcourt positions

Cason joined me at The Michigan Insider to break down his commitment and what to expect from him as a Wolverine.

“I committed to Michigan because (Coach May) believed in me enough to bring me with him from FAU to Michigan,” Cason said.

May’s fast paced, “Four out, One in” system is a big draw for players like Cason. It is one of the reasons why Cason ultimately decided to join May at Michigan.

“He likes his players to get out and run in transition, which is where I’m at my best.” Cason said.

Finally, Cason had a message for all Michigan fans who don’t quite know him yet.

“I want to be the best player I can be,” Cason said. “I try to soak up all the information I can and learn from it. You can expect a player who loves the game and will show that when I step on the court, by putting everything on the line, every single day.”
