Several Big Ten teams showed interest, but Oakland star Trey Townsend is heading west.

Townsend, a 6-foot-6 junior from Oxford, announced he will transfer to Arizona on Wednesday, according to On3. He chose the Wildcats over Ohio State Louisville and Michigan, among others.

Michigan State also had some reported interest in the in-state product, but Omaha transfer Frankie Fidler, who committed to Tom Izzo on Tuesday, will fill a similar role with the Spartans.

The Horizon League Player of the Year averaged 17.3 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game while shooting 45.5% from the field and 37.5% from three this season.

Along with sharp-shooter Jack Gohlke, Townsend led Oakland to the NCAA Tournament, scoring 38 points against Milwaukee in the Horizon League final and 17 points in an upset win over Kentucky in the first round.

He scored 30 points in a second-round loss to NC State. His arrival at Arizona should help Tommy Lloyd replace scoring lost when All-Pac 12 big man Oumar Ballo transferred to Indiana.

Townsend is ranked as the 58th best available transfer by 247 Sports and the 85th best by On3.
