The Oklahoma Sooners land a 2025 commit in priority cornerback target Courtland Guillory.
The Oklahoma Sooners get some good news from the recruiting trail as a priority 2025 target makes it official. Courtland Guillory announced via social media his commitment to the Crimson and Cream.
Guillory becomes the 14th member of OU’s 2025 class. He’s the seventh defensive commit of the group and the third defensive back to pledge in the cycle.
“When I took a visit up there, I had my whole family with me,” Guillory said. “A big part of my recruitment is my mom, my mom and my parents, and they feel like Brent Venables and Jay Valai are very genuine. My mom loved Venables, they felt like the coaches were real down to earth… That’s just feeling like home.”
But finding that home is the realization of a dream. Guillory has long emphasized the prioritization of patience throughout his process, having faith he’d get to the point he’s now in.
“Mainly I thank God, without him none of this would be possible,” Guillory said. “I put in so much blood, sweat and tears for this sport, and for coaches to see the potential in me is a blessing.”
According to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Player Rankings, the world of recruiting sees Guillory as the No. 364 overall recruit in the 2024 recruiting class. The four-star also rates as the No. 31 cornerback in the nation and a top-60 player in the state of Texas. As for the 247Sports Network’s specific rankings, there Guillory checks in as a three-star recruit and is considered the No. 41 corner in America, plus the No. 57 prospect inside the talented Lone Star State.
“(Jay Valai) basically just told me that when he saw my game he had to give me a call,” Guillory said. “The passion and energy I play with is unmatched. He said my film matched a five-star caliber player.”
Guillory looks forward to taking his talents to a place he feels can capitalize on his abilities. It’s all about the development process in pursuit of his ultimate dream.
“When I think of Oklahoma, I think of the success the program has had over several years,” Guillory said. “Every year they send players to the NFL, which is a dream of mine. By choosing a school like Oklahoma, I know that I would be setting myself up for a good future.”
It’s safe to expect that future being bright. Guillory takes a ton of pride in bringing a different level of intensity, effort and passion to his position.
“If I could describe my game, I would describe it as physical,” Guillory said. “Coach Valai brought up the fact of how physical of a player I was and the fact that I play very angry. He loved that trait about my game.”
Guillory is now set to bring that signature physicality to Norman. As the Sooners continue to build their reputation defensively ahead of a move to the SEC, the addition of a player like Guillory pushes Oklahoma even further in the right direction.
