A highly-rated quarterback recruit has turned down the likes of Georgia and Michigan in order to play for a rather surprising alternative.

Bo Polston, considered a four-star recruit from the class of 2026 by Rivals, announced Monday that he has committed to Toledo. He spurned a number of Power 5 schools in doing so.

Kyle Rowland of the Toledo Blade pointed out that Polston also visited Notre Dame last season. Washington, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Cal, and Indiana are among the other schools that had extended offers to him.

This may simply be one of the knock-on effects of the transfer portal’s changes to college football. There is nothing stopping Polston from starting his career at a school like Toledo, where he is likely to get immediate playing time. If he impresses, he could then attract interest from Power 5 schools, and would be able to transfer without any restriction. There is also a long way to go before signing day, and this is only a verbal commitment.

Georgia has seen plenty of five-star quarterbacks leave for greener pastures in recent years. Perhaps Polston did not want to risk landing in that category.
