Mundo Deportivo have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are demanding over €40m (£34.7m) for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer.
It has been widely reported over the past few weeks that Tottenham are open to offers for Hojbjerg, with Atletico thought to be at the front of the queue to snap up the midfielder (The Daily Mail).
Earlier this week, we relayed a report from Marca (via Sport Witness), which claimed that the Dane had emerged as Atletico’s top target ahead of the likes of Paris Saint-Germain’s Marco Verratti, Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi and Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat.
Simeone has wanted Hojbjerg for a long time
Mundo Deportivo have now also asserted that Hojbjerg is Diego Simeone’s top choice this summer.
It is explained that the Atletico boss wanted to sign the Tottenham man as far back as 2021 but the North London club plainly refused to sell the player at the time.
The report adds that the former Southampton man is now in favour of a switch to the Metropolitano Stadium, which could work in the La Liga side’s favour.
However, it is explained that Spurs have made it clear that it would take an offer above €40m (£34.7m) to prize Hojbjerg away from N17.
Spurs Web Opinion
Given Atletico’s current financial situation, they are not likely to be in a position to pay £35m-plus for Hojbjerg unless they get some players out of the door.
So, the likelihood is that a deal for the Dane will drag on until the final few weeks of the transfer window.
