An Alabama football departure has found a new home. Khurtiss Perry announced his transfer to Virginia Tech on Tuesday night.

The defensive lineman was UA’s first portal entrant in the spring window. Five scholarship players left the program following spring practices with Kalen DeBoer and the new coaching staff. Each has found a home except for Tony Mitchell, another in-state prep star.

Perry was the 2021 Class 5A Player of the Year at Pike Road. He developed into a four-star recruit and had interest from Auburn, Clemson and the Tide. Perry was called by Indiana, Wisconsin and Louisville in his latest recruitment.

“While my time at Alabama has been nothing short of amazing, I believe that exploring new opportunities through the transfer portal is the next step in my journey as a student-athlete. This decision wasn’t made lightly; It’s a step towards achieving my ultimate goals and aspirations in football,” Perry wrote on social media upon entering the portal April 23.

The Hokies went 7-6 last season, winning the Military Bowl with Brent Pry. Second-year defensive coordinator Chris Marve will now get to deploy Perry and his 6-foot-2 frame in the trenches. Perry appeared in one game through his first two collegiate seasons.
