Leicester City are reported to be closing in on a deal for Montpellier winger Stephy Mavididi, with negotiations for the Englishman ‘very advanced’.

City are expected to add wide attacking players to their squad this summer, especially with the imminent exit of left-winger Harvey Barnes. The academy graduate is set to join Newcastle for a fee of around £38 million.

It leaves Marc Albrighton as the only natural first team wide man at the club, although Timothy Castagne has been playing a more advanced role during pre-season. Youngster Wanya Marcal-Madivadua has also played a big part in the friendly games so far.

It seems that City are now closing in on another wide option. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano , negotiations for Mavididi are ‘very advanced’ and City hope to get a deal done as early as ‘today’.

He adds that personal terms between City and Mavididi are ‘on the verge’ of being agreed. If a deal goes through, the transfer will see the 25-year-old return to England and the Midlands, with the player originally from Derby.

Mavididi started his career with Southend United, but came up through the youth teams at Arsenal. He failed to make a first team appearance for the Gunners before joining Juventus in 2018.

After making one first team appearance for the Italian giants and spending time on loan with Dijon, the left-winger joined Ligue 1 side Montpellier in 2020. Last season saw him score four goals and provide two assists in 26 appearances in the French top division.

The winger has a total of 21 goals and five assists in 98 games for the French side. He has just one year remaining on his contract, meaning that City could be getting the player for a cut-price figure this summer.
