Report: Burnley will rival Nottingham Forest in race to sign Che Adams

Burnley will try and pip Nottingham Forest and Everton to the signing of Che Adams this summer. Southampton are looking to sell some of their players after relegation and the striker is a wanted man.

According to TeamTalk, the Scotland international is now wanted by Vincent Kompany. Southampton will see several players go this summer, with Championship football on the menu at St Mary’s Stadium next season.

Adams played in the 4-3 defeat for Southampton against Forest in May. He didn’t really produce the goods that night but he still caught the eye of Steve Cooper who is thought to be a huge fan.

So too is Kompany though, it would seem. The Clarets are looking to bolster their strikeforce this summer and the 26-year-old has been targeted as a realistic signing for the club.

If Forest go for him, it won’t be the first time that they’ve tried to sign him. When Ralph Hasenhuttl had shunted the player down the pecking order, it was reported that he was available for loan.

It’s claimed that Cooper likes Adams a lot. He will be keen to add some more firepower in the summer and perhaps the player could do a job at Forest.

Hasenhuttl was a big fan of Adams during his time at the club. He called him ‘fantastic’ during an interview with the Daily Echo back in February 2020.

Burnley want to pip Forest to signing of Adams

The Reds do need some more firepower. Although it’s fair to say they’ve found a formula to start games, better quality is needed in reserve.

Adams is from the East Midlands and surely he’d jump at the chance to move to Forest this summer. However, other clubs will likely be monitoring the situation.

However, with Taiwo Awoniyi clearly ahead of him at the City Ground, perhaps Adams will favour a move to somewhere like Burnley where he could see the path clear to play every week.

Adams earns £52,000-a-week at Southampton. He could have a clause in his Saints contract that sees that decrease following relegation and as a result, a move for the player would make sense.

The Clarets could hold the aces here though. They will have more opportunities for him to play in his favoured position and perhaps Forest will find themselves being forced to look elsewhere.
