Texas A&M football is looking to win out in a high-leverage recruitment. To do so, they’ll have to outlast a bigtime West Coast program.

Report: Texas A&M football and Oregon Ducks in battle for priority recruit

This Texas A&M football staff is slowly building an extremely impressive recruiting class for the 2025 cycle. One of the best measures for the quality of a class is the Blue Chip Ratio—in other words, the percentage of your roster that were four and five stars. A “championship level”—the bar a program needs to clear in order to compete for a national championship—is 50%. This class currently sits at 83%.

If that weren’t impressive enough, this has all been accomplished with many of the Aggies’ most talented targets still left on the board. Chief among those targets is the explosive athlete out of Galveson, Jonah Williams. The five-star can play safety and linebacker, and that versatility in addition to his physical gifts make him one of the top players in the country—by the composite, the seventh-rated player overall.

The Aggies have been trending recently with Williams, having been predicted to land him by some national recruiting experts. After a lot of OU momentum earlier this year, this is a big move by the Aggie staff.

A report has now emerged from Jaxson Callaway (AggiesToday for those of you familiar with the brand rather than the individual) that the Aggies, while indeed still in the pole position, are actually in a battle with the Oregon Ducks rather than the Oklahoma Sooners for Williams’s services.

The Aggies have positioned themselves well if they have taken the top spot, and if Oregon is indeed the main competition here, I feel great about the Aggies’ chances. Williams is a key piece that would take this already impressive DB recruiting class to the next level for Texas A&M football.

Dan Lanning and company are formidable foes, but I trust in Mike Elko to help get this one across the finish line. Hopefully we’ll have some news soon on this front, but for now, I’m happy with the work Elko and company have done thus far.
