Andrew Heaney pitched well and led the Texas Rangers to a victory over the Miami Marlins on Sunday afternoon.

The Rangers defeated the Marlins by a final score of 6-0 on Sunday. Texas improved to 29-30 with the victory. They want to climb back over the .500 mark as soon as possible. On Sunday, the offense performed well, but Rangers starting pitcher Andrew Heaney led the way.

Heaney, a veteran left-handed hurler, turned in six innings of shutout baseball while striking out seven hitters. He surrendered just four hits and tallied no walks in the outing. The Rangers bullpen kept the Marlins in check after he departed, and Texas ultimately completed a combined shutout.

Sunday’s game represented the series’ rubber match, as Miami won the first game 8-2 on Friday before Texas answered with a 7-0 Saturday win. Heaney said Saturday’s outcome did not impact his mindset heading into Sunday’s affair.

“Regardless of the outcome of the day before I don’t think it changes my mindset, we wanna win everyday whether we lost or won the game before.”

The Rangers pitcher has endured an up-and-down season so far in 2024. However, he will be impactful moving forward, especially since injuries have decimated the rotation.

Andrew Heaney’s Up-And-Down 2024 Season

Heaney has always had star potential. His impressive repertoire of pitches allows him to record strikeouts at a consistent rate. The issue, though, has been overall inconsistency. Injuries have also impacted Heaney.

Heaney has pitched to an ERA of just under 4.50 for his career. He has recorded at least 150 strikeouts in a single season on three occasions. He finished the 2023 campaign, his first in Texas, with 151 strikeouts. He also posted a 4.15 ERA across 34 games pitched (28 starts).

Given that several Rangers pitchers are still injured, Texas hopes that Heaney can use his outing against the Marlins to jumpstart a string of quality performances.

The Rangers will head back to Arlington, TX, on Monday to host the Detroit Tigers.
