The Ohio State football running back squad just got really loaded. Coach Ryan Day and Chip Kelly have gotten busy over the winter all the way to spring to reel in one of the best 2025 recruiting classes. Bo Jackson was a big name in the mix. Alabama’s new head honcho Kalen DeBoer and a title-deprived Georgia Bulldogs squad led by Kirby Smart were willing to offer a lot for this elite rusher. Eventually, he chose to be part of the Buckeyes and did not seem to regret it.

Bo Jackson is a Buckeyes RB

Bo Jackson is now officially part of the Ohio State 2025 recruiting class, per Garrick Hodge of Eleven Warriors. He joins Ryan Day’s very deep running back rotation that already features TreVeyon Henderson, Quinshon Judkins, James Peoples, TC Caffrey, and Sam Williams-Dixon.

What made Bo Jackson pick Ohio State over Georgia and Alabama? It all had to do with the promised usage rate for him. After all, the ultimate dream is to make it to the NFL and he can only get that once the proper opportunities to shine are also provided.

“They say with a new offensive coordinator they’re going to get the ball to the running back a lot in the backfield. Throwing the ball, running the ball, everything. My parents and I had a good talk with Chip Kelly on my spring visit to Ohio State. The way he’s got everything set up in the offense. It feels like it’s going to open up everything with everything spaced out,” the young rusher declared.

It’s this type of offense in Ryan Day’s system that made Jackson declare, “I love how they use their backs.”

Now, Ohio State football has a strong running back with a mean stiff arm. They are getting someone who has legs for days. He gave his team 30 touchdowns and a total gain of 1,700 rushing yards. Despite other big names who are trying to notch more usage in snaps, he will surely stick out. For now, the Buckeyes should rejoice. They kept high-profile programs like Georgia and Alabama from getting the fifth-ranked running back in the 2025 class.

Ohio State football’s new running back and his opportunities

The Buckeyes are always going to be filled with top-end talent. They have one of the biggest programs and attract the largest NIL budgets in all of the nation. All of that mixed with a great alumni fanbase and a football-crazed student body will definitely make anyone want to commit there.

However, the situation in the running back room will also clear up. This happens once he steps foot as an official player for the program. Ohio State is expecting both Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Hendrickson to be drafted into the NFL next year. This means that they are able to use Jackson as a clear-cut top option when it comes to ground plays.

This gives him the freedom to showcase his skills in front of NFL scouts. Moreover, the level of production that he will bring given his prospective usage rate might even get Ohio State close to another national title run. Will he be the missing piece such that Coach Ryan Day brings a College Football Playoff National Championship first before Alabama or Georgia are able to do so again?
