Stoke City finalize deal with block buster out-of-contract player.

Stoke boss Steven Schumacher signed Miller for the Pilgrims from Rotherham United in the summer of 2022

Steven Schumacher’s Stoke City are the latest club to be linked with out-of-contract Plymouth Argyle player Mickel Miller.

The 28-year-old was offered a new deal at the end of last season to extend his stay at Home Park but that has remained unsigned and the Pilgrims look to have already brought in a replacement for him. Nathanael Ogbeta, who like Miller can play at left full-back or wing-back, became the first signing of the Wayne Rooney era at Argyle after being released by Swansea City.

Now TEAMtalk have reported that ‘Stoke City are weighing up a move for Plymouth Argyle wide man Mickel Miller on a free transfer after his contract talks at Home Park stalled.’

Schumacher, appointed by Stoke last December after being lured away from Argyle, has already started to rebuild the Potters’ squad this close season.

Goalkeeper Viktor Johansson has been brought in from Rotherham United while defender and former Pilgrims’ loan signing Ben Gibson has joined from Norwich City, and now Miller is another possible addition.

He was signed for Argyle by Schumacher in the summer of 2022, arriving as a free agent from Rotherham United, and went on to make a total 29 starts and 20 substitute appearances, and scored one goal, over the next two seasons, the first of which was badly disrupted by injuries.

Miller was linked with Preston North End, as well as promoted League One clubs Portsmouth and Oxford United, earlier this summer.

Defender Brendan Galloway was another Argyle player out of contract this summer who was offered a new deal and in his case he accepted it and will be part of Rooney’s squad for the 2024/25 Championship campaign.
