The Dons have today strengthened our options in the centre of the park with the addition of Solihull Moors midfielder Callum Maycock.
A power-packed player who is capable of transitioning defence into attack quickly, the 26-year-old has signed a two-year contract with Wimbledon and will now be aiming to make his mark in the Football League.
Born in Birmingham, Callum joined Coventry City’s academy as an apprentice and quickly worked his way into being handed further opportunities by the Sky Blues. This led to his senior debut in 2016, coming on as a substitute in the FA Cup against Morecambe.
A dozen appearances at that level would eventually see the midfielder head out on loan to Macclesfield Town, with whom he got his first taste of the EFL across 33 games in league and cup.
Then came another temporary spell with Leamington in the National League North before a permanent move to the Moors offered him a platform to really kick on at the level above.
A return of 176 appearances have followed for the Midlands outfit, as Callum has gone on to establish himself as a key cog in a Solihull side which has consistently reached the play-offs on several occasions.
His quality in combining with his teammates is most notable, whilst he has also developed a real knack for arriving late in the penalty area to get on the scoresheet, meaning we’ll be adding more goals to our midfield.
Into his prime years, Callum now has the opportunity to make a name for himself at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.
Speaking after completing the move, he said: “I want to do what I can to help this club get into League One. Promotion is our target, it’s the aim and hopefully we’ll get that done.
“I’ve shown that I can dart forward from midfield, get on the ball and as of last year, get goals to my name. The aim will be to continue that here. I’m excited to be in this place.”
Johnnie Jackson said: “Callum is an energetic, box to box midfielder with an eye for a goal. He has performed consistently well over the last few seasons with Solihull and is hungry to take his chance in the league.
“He wants to get on the ball and make things happen and loves to get forward, as seen by the eight goals he scored from midfield last season.”
Head of Football Operations, Craig Cope, said: “Callum’s qualities will complement the group, he is an energetic midfielder who has added goals to his game in recent seasons. He is ready and hungry to step into the EFL.”
