League One Champions Portsmouth target Jesrun Rak-Sakyi is wanted by Championship sides Luton Town and Blackburn Rovers.
The newly promoted second tier side admitted earlier in the window that they were unlikely to be able to succeed in their efforts to sign the talented 21-year-old, with numerous Championship sides expected to be interested in a loan deal from Crystal Palace.
Two clubs now linked, according to Alan Nixon are John Eustace’s Blackburn Rovers and relegated Premier League side Luton Town.
After starting his career at the Chelsea academy, Rak-Sakyi moved to Crystal Palace in 2019, progressing through the ranks to make 10 senior appearances for the Premier League side. He moved to Charlton Athletic on loan, after being linked to the likes of fellow League One side Lincoln City in the summer of 2022.
He impressed during his spell at the Addicks, scoring 15 goals and assisting on nine occasions picking up the Supporters’ Player of the Year award receiving 46% of the votes.
Upon his return he picked up game time in the Premier League for Palace before a hamstring injury in November all but ended his season prematurely.
Ready for the next step of his career?
The hamstring injury seriously hampered Rak-Sakyi’s season. After impressing with Charlton Athletic, it was expected that he would continue his push up and perhaps cement himself in the squad of his parent club.
However, after spending most of the season on the sidelines, he will need to regain his momentum that he picked up at The Valley. He has already proved he can perform in the third tier so the next step for a loan would naturally be the Championship.
The player needs a team that will allow him the freedom to create and impact play at time on impulse. Rak-Sakyi can make things happen and drive the team forward when perhaps they are under the cosh and stifling that would limit his best attributes.
