Subway Socceroos forward Sammy Silvera has signed a season-long loan deal with newly promoted EFL Championship side Portsmouth FC.
The 23-year-old joins the south coast side from Middlesbrough for the 2024/25 campaign and links up with fellow Socceroo Kusini Yengi.
Silvera joined Boro last season and scored six goals and grabbed three assists in 42 appearances under Michael Carrick after a fantastic year with the Central Coast Mariners in the Isuzu UTE A-League.
Upon signing at Fratton Park, Silvera was delighted and looking forward to the opportunity and admitted he spoke to Yengi.
“I’m thrilled to be here,” he told the club. ” I spoke to some people about the club, especially Kusini Yengi who couldn’t speak higher of the place, so I just can’t wait to get started.
“Even without speaking to people, I know the stadium is always packed and about all the fans and the atmosphere.”
Pompey boss John Mousinho praised the winger’s attacking quality in an official statement: “This is a deal that we’re delighted to get over the line and we’re grateful to Middlesbrough for loaning Sammy to us.
“We’ve brought in a powerful and direct winger with Championship experience, who can play on both sides of the pitch and is technically very strong.
“He’s an exciting player and is capable of making things happen in the final third to get the crowd on their feet.”
Silvera made his senior Australian debut against Mexico in September 2023 and has since added a further five caps to his name. He was also part of Graham Arnold’s squad at the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™.
