KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Duke men’s basketball team has earned an Academic Excellence Award and five Blue Devils were named to the Academic Honors Court as the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced its academic awards for the 2023-24 season.

Duke’s Honors Court recipients are Neal BegovichJaylen BlakesStanley BordenSpencer Hubbard and Ryan Young. To be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must be academically a junior, senior or graduate student and a varsity player with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2023-24 academic year.

To receive the Team Academic Excellence Award, a program must achieve a team GPA of 3.0 or higher for the academic year. In Jon Scheyer‘s second season as head coach, the Blue Devils posted a 3.31 team GPA, with a conference-high eight student-athletes earning a spot on the All-ACC Academic Team – Blakes, Young, Kyle FilipowskiCaleb FosterJared McCainTJ PowerTyrese Proctor and Sean Stewart.

Duke was one of seven ACC institutions honored with the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, joining Clemson, Florida State, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

More than 2,100 student-athletes secured spots on the NABC Honors Court and more than 360 programs received NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards for 2023-24. Each institution must count the GPA of all men’s basketball student-athletes who were listed on the team roster during the previous season. All four-year and two-year colleges with at least one active NABC-member coach are eligible. The NABC’s academic awards recognize teams and athletes from all levels of college basketball.
