Portsmouth have completed the signing of former Sheffield United captain Sophie Barker on a free transfer.
Pompey announced news of the deal via a post on their official club website this afternoon.
Barker moves to Fratton Park after leaving former club Sheffield United earlier this summer.
The 33-year-old arrives at Portsmouth with a wealth of experience under her belt. Barker has twice won the Barclays Women’s Championship with former clubs Doncaster Rovers Belles and Leicester City. She represented both clubs in the Barclays Women’s Super League along with Lincoln Ladies. Barker has more than 200 competitive appearances under her belt.
After adding Barker to his Portsmouth squad, manager Jay Sadler said “Sophie is a serial winner and one of the most experienced midfielders in the league, so I’m delighted to welcome her to Portsmouth.
“She brings a wealth of quality which will complement the skill-sets of the squad, and she will be a great addition to the dressing room with her pedigree, knowledge and character.
“We’ve had really positive talks over the off-season, and I know she remains as determined as ever to be successful on the pitch, and I’m excited to see that transfer across.”
Barker is Portsmouth’s first signing of the summer transfer window.
