Rangers are in the mix for Tyrese Cambell who has been released by Stoke City after scoring 36 goals in 164 appearances.
If a recent report from The Daily Mail (as cited by the Daily Record) is believed to be true, Rangers could reignite interest in Tyrese Campbell who is available on a Bosman. Both the Glasgow giants were keen to have him four years back. However, he decided to stay at Stoke City and continue his development south of the border.
The 24-year-old former England youth international had a brief stint in the academy of Manchester City before leaving for Stoke in 2016. After a few years with the reserves and limited senior minutes, Campbell was loaned out to Shrewsbury Town for regular gametime. He netted five times in 15 outings for the League One side and the Potters, therefore, reintegrated him into the senior setup from the 2019-20 season onwards.
Although he was showing signs of improvement with first-team engagement, a serious knee injury derailed his progress as he missed almost 10 months of football in 2022. He never regained momentum post-injury return and the Championship outfit have now released the Englishman upon contract expiry.
Tyrese, who is also the son of former Arsenal centre-forward Kevin Campbell, has an array of suitors with Sheffield United, West Brom, QPR, Preston and Cardiff City likely to rival Rangers for the youngster. It remains to be seen whether he prefers to stay in the Championship or accepts the Gers’ offer this time around.
Why Rangers Should Step Up The Chase
Philippe Clement is working towards rebuilding the squad in the aftermath of several high-profile exits. Veterans like Ryan Jack, John Lundstram, Jon McLaughlin, Kemar Roofe and Borna Barisic parted ways as free agents, also, the growing interest in James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Todd Cantwell and Scott Wright could see further departures in the coming days. They would require significant reinforcements to restore depth and improve quality across the pitch, particularly in the attacking third following the expiration of Abdallah Sima and Fabio Silva’s loan deals.
Meanwhile, the Gers currently have Cyriel Dessers and Danilo as outright ‘number 9’ options. Hamza Igamane has been an exciting summer addition from AS FAR, but the 21-year-old Moroccan needs time to attune to the demands of Scottish football.
Despite scoring 22 goals in 54 outings, Dessers has often been criticized for his lack of all-round ability. Danilo missed months of football due to persistent injury problems and the conundrum high up the pitch depicts the necessity of a new centre-forward who would slot in straight away. Campbell needs a fresh start to revive his career and a move to Ibrox would be a win-win for all parties involved.
