Portsmouth have completed the signing of former Blackburn Rovers forward Megan Hornby on a two-year deal.

Pompey announced news of the transfer via a post on their official club website last night.

Hornby joins Portsmouth on a free transfer after leaving former club Blackburn Rovers at the end of last season. The 24-year-old was Rovers’ top scorer in the Barclays Women’s Championship in 2023/2024 with seven goals. Only seven players scored more goals than Hornby in last season’s competition.

If Portsmouth are to stay in the second tier for more than one season, they will need goals and Hornby is certainly a player who knows how to hit the back of the net.

After adding Hornby to his squad, Portsmouth boss Jay Sadler said “I’m delighted to welcome Megan to Portsmouth. She’s a talented player and someone who stood out following an incredible season last term.

“We’ve had plenty of positive conversations over the off-season and it was her hunger and desire for personal and collective success that stood out most.

“She knows what this league is about – you have to fight to get what you want. We believe she has everything needed to fit into our way and will not only make us better now, but also in the future.”

Hornby becomes Portsmouth’s third signing of the summer transfer window.
