Tottenham look set to make several changes to their squad this summer to please new manager Ange Postecoglou. The North London side may have to sell star man Harry Kane, who will soon enter the final 12 months of his contract, though this will give chairman Daniel Levy plenty of funds to bring in some top players.
Tottenham are in negotiations with Brentford over the possible transfer of goalkeeper David Raya, according to Fabrizio Romano. They have already agreed personal terms with the shot-stopper.
Spurs have also been tipped to submit an offer for Roma and Brazil centre-back Roger Ibanez in the coming days.
Postecoglou could benefit from having a new midfielder added to his ranks, too. On Sunday, French outlet Foot Mercato revealed how Spurs are aiming to ‘win the race’ for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.
Barcelona have long been admirers of Amrabat, but they are now at risk of losing out amid growing competition for his services. The player’s brother Nordin recently got Man Utd involved in the hunt by revealing how Ten Hag has been ‘charmed’ by Amrabat ever since they worked together at FC Utrecht.
Ten Hag may have to watch on as the Morocco World Cup star heads to Premier League rivals Spurs, though. Spanish source Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness) have now claimed Barca’s hopes of signing Amrabat are in tatters, mainly due to Spurs.
And Spurs could achieve the signing of the Barca and Man Utd-linked ace for a surprisingly low fee. He has previously been valued at over £30million but is now available for just €20m (£17m).
Tottenham face Bayern competition for Serie A raid
A transfer at this price would save Postecoglou and Spurs bags of money, helping them to afford further deals before the summer transfer window ends.
As with most of Spurs’ transfer pursuits though, it will not be simple. Mundo Deportivo add that German titans Bayern have just joined the chase for Amrabat.
They could bid more than that £17m sum to try and win the race for Amrabat, setting up a potential auction. It seems Spurs’ capture of the 26-year-old for a brilliantly low sum will depend entirely on whether Bayern act on their interest in him.
Amrabat could replace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the Spurs starting lineup. The Dane has previously been a reliable performer in a Spurs shirt but endured a poor end to the 2022-23 campaign.
Amrabat himself had some problems after the World Cup, putting in some sub-par performances in Serie A. Should he indeed head to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, then he will be looking to return to his exceptional World Cup form.
Amrabat dominated the midfield on several occasions – with the help of Azzedine Ounahi – to help Morocco reach the World Cup semis for the first time ever. This saw them become the first African nation to go this far at the tournament, though they were ultimately beaten by France.
Meanwhile, a big-name Man Utd star has been urged to avoid signing for Spurs and instead join one of their Prem rivals.
