Collingwood superstar Jordan De Goey’s hopes of helping his side push for a chance at back-to-back flags are officially over.
The midfielder has been ruled out for the rest of the season, with scans confirming a high-grade hamstring strain with tendon involvement.
De Goey will be sidelined for 10-12 weeks after suffering the innocuous injury during Collingwood’s scintillating three-point victory over rivals Carlton on Saturday night at the MCG.
The premiership star was immediately subbed off and was seen on crutches post match.
At the end of the match, Pies coach Craig McRae already had low hopes that his key midfielder would return in 2024 to help his side’s search for another September berth.
“I’ve just been told it’s high-grade. Obviously, it’s not great for him,” McRae said.
“I would have thought it is difficult for him to play in the short to medium term.”
The club will provide an in depth report on De Goey in their upcoming club injury report.
It was the only sour part of Collingwood superstar Scott Pendlebury’s 400th game, which was highlighted by Carlton’s Mitch McGovern missing a goal to win the game, after the siren.
McGovern strolled in and thankfully for Pendlebury, missed the goals completely, kicking the ball out on the full, handing the Pies the narrow win.
Collingwood players and fans erupted, as Pendlebury’s teammates swarmed him in celebration.
Pendlebury joins just five other V/AFL legends in the 400-game club.
North Melbourne’s Brent Harvey sits at the top, with 432 games, followed by Michael Tuck (Hawthorn, 426 games), Shaun Burgoyne (Hawthorn, Port Adelaide, 407 games), Kevin Bartlett (Richmond, 403 games) and Dustin Fletcher (Essendon, 400 games).
The Pies sit in 11th on the ladder after round 21, just one game outside the top eight.
