Eels superstar Mitchell Moses has sensationally been linked to the Roosters amid reports he could request an early release from his current contract.
The 29-year-old’s current deal, which was signed in May 2023, runs until the end of 2026, with options in his favour for the 2027 and 2028 seasons.
Now, according Fox League’s James Hooper, “conversations have taken place” regarding Moses’ potential exit from the struggling Parramatta club.
He believes the Roosters would be an ideal destination for the current Blues halfback, with five-eighth Luke Keary departing the club at the season’s end.
“If Mitchell Moses hasn’t already asked Parramatta for a release, I think he does in the very near future. It’s a problem for Jason Ryles,” Hooper said.
“His agent is his cousin Isaac Moses… he also looks after Blaize Talagi, we saw what happened last week, he’s gone to Penrith.
“All roads lead to the Sydney Roosters. Nick Politis is the best deal maker in the business in my view, you look at Cooper Cronk, Sonny Bill Williams.
“If uncle Nick wants to get a deal done he can. I’m not saying they’ve spoken, I’m not saying he’s done anything outside of the rules but I’m ready the tea leaves, speaking to players.
“Everyone is talking about it… he’s 29 at the moment, turns 30 in September. It’s not rumours, it’s conversations, conversations that have taken place.”
However, Hooper went on to reveal there’s one big stumbling block in any potential move for Moses to the Tricolours club, and it’s not their salary cap.
Joey Manu, Joseph Suaalii, Luke Keary, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Sitili Tupouniua all leave at the end of the 2024 season, giving the Roosters a war chest to work with.
“They’ve just lost Blaize Talagi, Ethan Sanders who was the next generation has gone and signed with Canberra,” Hooper said.
“Moses is managed by his cousin Isaac. The stumbling block I can see with him going to the Roosters, the only stumbling block, is that Nick Politis refuses, he has given Isaac life.
“He will not do business with Isaac. But knowing the Roosters… if they want to do the deal they find a way.”
“They’ve got $2.5 million dollars going out the door…. Teddy (Tedesco) and Mitch are great mates, used to live together, even now only live 10 minutes apart.
“They remain very good friends, and from what I’m hearing I think there’s been a couple of conversations.”
Meanwhile, The Daily Telegraph’s Michael Carayannis explained that the Eels are “comfortable” with Moses’ situation at the club.
He explained the gun halfback has had conversations with incoming coach Jason Ryles who believes Moses will be in his squad in 2025.
“They’ve heard the murmurs, yes. You’d have to have been sitting under a rock to not hear what’s been happening the last few days,” Carayannis said.
“Jason Ryles, from speaking to people at Parramatta, they haven’t heard anything directly at all about this. They’re confident… they are comfortable with the situation.”
