Blackburn boss John Eustace responds to midfielder’s transfer.

Blackburn boss John Eustace has responded to transfer talk around key midfielder Lewis Travis, reported earlier this week to be a target for Stoke City.

Amid claims that talks were already underway, self-styled “Boss of Goss” Alan Nixon reported that Travis could be on his way to the bet365 Stadium – with Lewis Baker going in the opposite direction. Nixon added that both clubs rated their players at around the £2.5m mark.

Eustace, a former Stoke midfielder himself, is hoping talk of a move for Travis comes to nothing. “I think it’s very evident that Lewis is a leader, he was captain of the team last season,” Eustace told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“Before I came in, he went to Ipswich, he has a promotion on his CV. He’s been at a top club in the Championship and he knows how things work at the top level in this league.

“His experience is vital around the group. I’d love Lewis to stay and be an important part of the team.”

Travis, who is 26, ended last season with promoted Ipswich Town, joining the club on loan in January and going on to make nine appearances for the Tractor Boys.
