Three players will face fitness tests ahead of Saturday’s clash with Collingwood.
Hawthorn trio Aine McDonagh, Mackenzie Eardley and Sophie Locke will all face tests to prove their fitness ahead of Saturday’s match-up against Collingwood at Victoria Park.
McDonagh was involved in an incident during the first quarter of Hawthorn’s Week 1 win over Carlton while Eardley and Locke are both on the verge of a return to play following quad and knee injuries suffered during the pre-season, respectively.
AFLW High Performance Manager Aaron Kellett provided an update on how each player is tracking as the side aims to back up its victory over the Blues this weekend.
Aine McDonagh (shoulder) – test
“She got a bit of a knock on her shoulder and just re-aggravated an old instability episode. She was pretty sore after the game and lost a bit of range but thankfully, that’s returned today. We’ve rested her from the light training today but we anticipate that she’ll train fully on Thursday and be available. We’ll just have to have a look at her later in the week.”
Mackenzie Eardley (quad) – test
“She’s tracking really positively. She’s trained fully during the last few sessions. At the end of last week, we made a decision to maybe look at getting a bit of extra continuity in her football and get another week of full training under her belt. We anticipate she’s going to be available for selection for Round 2.”
Sophie Locke (knee) – test
“Sophie’s progressed really well. We’re probably a week ahead of where we thought we were going to be with Sophie. She’s trained fully for the past two sessions. We’ve got our main training session on Thursday and pending that, if she gets through that fine, we’ll look to return her through the scrimmage action this week for some of the football and hopefully she’ll be on track for Round 3.”
