Harry Kane is close to an historic deal to join Bayern Munich should the executive summit between Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, technical director Marco Neppe and Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy go well on Monday.
Bayern are confident an agreement can be reached even though the clubs are some way apart on their respective valuations of the 30-year-old England and Spurs record goal-scorer.
Bayern are likely to bid around £75million, which they consider a huge fee for a player who will be free next summer.
Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel wants a centre forward as his No 1 priority as their star striker Sadio Mane is closing on a £25million move to Al-Nassr.
Kane is the outstanding candidate and wants to join the Bundesliga champions but they will need to get closer to Levy’s £90m valuation.
Bayern are hopeful with Kane set on the move and showing no desire to sign a new contract with Tottenham.
The club’s desire to bring Kane to the German top flight was encapsulated by Bayern president Herbert Hainer’s recent declaration.
Hainer explained how the signing of England’s record goalscorer would represent something of a coup for the Bundesliga as a whole.
‘Here in the Bundesliga we don’t have many international stars any more,’ Hainer told Kicker, the German football magazine – via The Times.
‘Bayern always try to bring in stars. Harry Kane is a highly attractive player, the England captain and a top scorer. He would do us and the Bundesliga good.’
Even with just one year remaining on his contract, the fee required to sign Kane would almost certainly break the club’s transfer record.
French defender Lucas Hernandez currently sits atop Bayern’s record arrivals chart, with Niko Kovac spending £68m to bring the Atletico Madrid star to the Allianz Arena.
